"Mountain Lake"
original oil painting by John Durant
This painting was inspired by the type of mountains you might see in the
Canadian Rockies. Altough I use reference photos in my work, this painting is of a fictional mountain scene
created from my own imagination.
I imagine walking to the edge of this isolated mountain lake
with my fishing gear in-hand, and throwing in my fishing line to catch some nice lake trout or salmon. I could make a
nice warm fire to cook up my catch, and just sit back and enjoy the clean, crisp mountain air. Notice the waterfall
coming out of the mountains on the other side of the lake. One day I may take a walk to the other side and paint you a
picture of that waterfall!
This painting was featured in a gallery owned by renowned painter Bill
Briggs in downtown Nashville next to the Wildhorse Saloon.
